Many of the patients I see in my practice have chronic illnesses, depression, insomnia, and autoimmune conditions or simply have busy/stressful lifestyles or are low in energy and vitality. Often my patients ask how they can improve the way they feel and my answer usually consists of the common sense approach to take good care of yourself, eat fresh unprocessed foods, drink plenty of fluids, get a good nights sleep and remove/reduce stress and environmental toxins etc.
However, if the key to wellness were so simple we would either never get ill in the first place or would be able to recover quickly and fully when we did.
What makes one person more susceptible to illness and disease than another? Why is it that despite our efforts to have a so-called healthy lifestyle illness and disease is increasing at an alarming rate?
One feasible answer to these questions is that it must be genetic that there is a component in the DNA, which gets triggered causing us to develop certain health conditions.
The other answer to consider is that there is an energetic component influencing our cells and hence our genes and DNA.
In 1905 Albert Einstein published his theory of relativity in which he explained and basically proved that everything is energy. Previously physicists believed that everything was made up of two separate elements, matter and energy, which meant that the human mind (energy) was separate from the human body (matter). Einstein turned this idea of separativeness on its head, E = mc2 proved that everything is energy. Therefore a dualistic world of matter and energy only seems to exist as objects have different rates of vibration. The denser an object is the slower its rate of energetic vibration and vice versa.
Einstein also insisted energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be changed or transmuted from one form to another. Energy is constantly changing, moving and transforming from one form of energy to another but the amount of energy always remains the same.
Quantum physics and science has ultimately discovered that the universe consists of something beyond the realm of matter and that something is the realm of pure energy.
Thus as everything is energy you are made of energy, your body is made energy and even your emotions and thoughts are fast vibrating forms of energy.
It is yet to be proven that disease is caused by energetic disturbances stored within the cells of the body. The energetic disturbance can be emotional or mental in origin or both and causes either a stagnation (blockage) or an excess (over stimulation) of energy flow in the body. It is the stagnation or excess of energy that ultimately manifests as a disease in the physical body.
Any form of emotional suffering or longing becomes trapped within the cells impeding normal energy flow. These emotions can be due external causes such as negative childhood experiences or inner issues like lack of self esteem and so on. These issues are the result of life experiences from early childhood to the present, and if you are open to the possibility of reincarnation, even past life experiences. If these ‘issues’ and ‘emotional patterns’ are not cleared from the body they lead to stagnation or excess of energy flow and manifest as disease.

Thus it is our energetic state, which will dictate whether we have harmony, health and vitality, or not.
To modify or transform our energetic state it is not enough to simply alter, suppress or arrest our emotional patterns. After all if you have anger and you choose to swallow it down, hide it and appear ‘soft’ rather than react with an explosive outburst the anger is still there, it is only your outer expression that is different. The hidden anger creates a stagnation whereas the explosion creates an excess of energy. It is the emotion itself, which needs to be cleared and removed from the body.
There are 3 simple practices that when applied to our daily life can assist in removing and clearing our emotional patterns by bringing energetic harmony and balance to our body and mind. These components consist of self-love, mediation and stillness and are what is esoterically termed as being in “ the livingness” or coming from the heart.
Self-love is living and making choices following the impulses of your inner-heart. This allows you to be guided by your inner wisdom rather than seeking fulfillment externally from need or emptiness or trying to please others or live up to their expectations.
It is not a selfish or self-indulgent practice however; it is a way of living, which allows you to attain a connection with your true being or essence.
Self-love as the name suggests encompasses loving and caring for yourself. It entails looking within for what you seek rather than relying on the world and others for love, acceptance and recognition.
Imagine caring for yourself as though you were caring for a young child. This would embody tenderness, compassion and unconditional love for yourself. By living this way you are free to wisely choose what your body requires to sustain it energetically. You will come to know what foods and lifestyle choices are in line with your heart and are suitable and loving for you.
Self-love for you may mean choosing to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding dairy, wheat or alcohol, taking moderate exercise, going to bed early after unwinding from the day, taking a jumper in case the weather turns cold, resting when you need to, meditating and so on. It may mean choosing not to put yourself in a situation or environment that you know is unhealthy for you. It is acknowledging when you feel too tired or have too much on then saying no to more responsibilities and activities that would otherwise drain your energy.
Self-love comprises taking the time to self-nurture and to care for yourself. Remember you are a man or a woman first and foremost not a husband/wife, father/mother, nor are you your occupation, nationality or what others say you are or ought to be etc.
To be self-loving is to do and be what feels right for you rather than doing or saying what is expected of you from others.
Meditation is a very beneficial tool, however mystique and confusion surround it, as there are so many conflicting and complex ways in which we are supposed to do it.
However, the gentle breath mediation is a very simple technique, which takes away this mystery. It simply consists of sitting with your eyes closed and breathing gently. It is unnecessary to use fancy hand or leg positions, or “empty” the mind or achieve an altered state and needless to meditate for hours at a time.
Meditating 3 times a day for 10-15 minutes preferably upon waking, at lunchtime and before bed is sufficient to bring about beneficial changes. [See The Gentle Breath Mediation for a description of the technique].
The gentle breath mediation will not leave you feeling blissed or relaxed so to speak but will give you a feeling of centredness, stillness and gentleness within the body allowing you to connect to your true state of being or essence. In-truth the gentle breath meditation reconnects you to your inner-heart. This connection fills your body with the firey energy of the soul which reduces the amount of pranic energy in the body. Pranic/emotional energy is the energy responsible for all diseases and illnesses. The firey energy of the soul in time energetically reconfigures your body back to your divine design which is free of all disharmony and disease.
Mediating for periods longer than 10-15 minutes is purely a distraction or indulgence that “numbs” the body leaving you feeling bliss, calmness and relaxation. You can be tricked or fooled into thinking that this is a good way to feel as it feels better in your body than the stress or anxiety etc that you are used to. However, meditating for too long actually increases pranic energy, the pranic energy that is the cause of all our illnesses, diseases and conditions in the first place.
People who are stressed, depressed or have chronic illnesses can benefit from meditation as will anyone who chooses to practice it. Meditation helps with many conditions such as nervousness, stress, insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, headaches, etc. It also strengthens the immune system, lowers blood pressure and heart rate, calms the mind, stabilises the emotions and assists REM sleep which the body needs to reconstitute, grow and repair. The health benefits of meditation are numerous and science is now beginning to understand and learn them. These benefits have been known about for thousands of years and are very easy for all to attain.
Being in “busyness” and stress puts the body under pressure as these conditions mean that our organs can not be in harmony. Often the adrenal glands, nervous system or endocrine system (hormones) have to work overtime to supply the energy demands of the body to meet the state of high alert that “stress” creates. Your body does not have an unlimited energy supply so we crave sugars and stimulants such as caffeine to keep us going. Eventually our systems start to fail or burn out leading to fatigue and chronic illnesses.
Bringing stillness and gentleness via the gentle breath meditation into your daily routine allows the body to be in harmony and use the divine firey energy to supply the needs of the body.
At the end of the gentle breath meditation you will be in a centered state of stillness and gentleness. The key is open your eyes, gently go about your business and take that stillness with you in all that you do. Try and carry the feeling you have during the meditation throughout the rest of your day. It is not a case of feeling still and gentle for a few minutes in meditation then returning to and continuing old frantic and stressful habits. It will be challenging to hold the stillness at first but be patient and aware of when you slip back into old patterns. When this happens, simply return to the gentle breath and with time it will become easier and more natural to you. Simply focus on the gentle breath and observe yourself and you will become aware of how your life begins to improve in many subtle ways.
Stillness here refers to an energetic state that is your true essence, an essence that also includes love, harmony and joy. Stillness does not mean not moving when referred to in this sense.
Gentleness is the bridge we can use to take us from the chaos into the love or stillness. Gentleness is achieved via the gentle breath meditation.
